From Lana Del Rey's acoustic version of her original Videogames, to one of my favourite artits ever, Charlene Soraia's cover of The Calling's, Wherever You Will Go, it seems a clean female vocal with a simple but always striking piano backing is where it's at! Feast your ears...

Benjamin Francis Leftwich & Joseph And David MANCHESTER GIG REVIEW
Okay so I had never heard anything by any of these guys, so for a tenner on the door I was hoping for something good. But I didn't get anything good. Good doesn't even do justice to these three guys. They are musicians like fallen angels!!!
Joseph & David

So opening the show at the lovely little Deaf Institute on Oxford Road was the magical duo Joseph & David, accompanied by wonderful vocal, guitar, banjo and piano skills. The audience fell in love instantly with Josephs flowery fingerwork and Davids charming voice. It was so powerful he didn't even need a microphone. It's people like these two, simply with skill and no demand for an electrical invasion who are re-instating to the world what real music is and where it comes from. Their CD, 'No Short of Time' has the songs from the gig, including one called 'Show Me', which nearly made me cry when they played it, it's so lovely!!! It's definately worth getting your hands on one, 5 songs beautifully crafted, some even with violins! :) perfection. And also David has really happy eyes when he performs. I definately reccomend you to see them live!! Buy their CD!! And follow this link! ----> http://www.myspace.com/josephanddavidmusic

Following the excellent opening act, was a gift given to the world, who goes by the name Benjamin Francis Lefwhich. Not only does this guy have a pretty fucking amazing name, HE IS AMAZING TOO! You could see every single person in the audience falling more and more in love with him as the set went on. He could literally have been singing the alphabet and have moved people. His beautiful voice made my ears so happy, not to mention how naturally his fingers sailed along the frets of his three equally blessed guitars. The moment he completely disconnected himself from the amps and the microphones, just sang and played, was as if we were all sat with him in his living room or something, following him on his journey through song so intimately. Nothing but one man, his guitar, and a room full of magical sound particles, enchanting everyone there. It was just brilliant. What I liked best was the imagery in the lyrics of what he writes and I will definately be buying his CD, 'Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm' available for pre-order now on ITunes (expected to be realeased in early july) for £7.99, and pursuing him further on www.myspace.com/benjaminfrancisleftwich AND YOU SHOULD TOO!!!!!!!!

Mary Stokes AKA Toked Stoked Music
"You say anybody can feel the way we feel, I say flowers bloom everyday it doesn't make them less real"
Yes, anybody who starts a song like that, has me wholeheartedely head-over-heels in love!
My new favourite musical fairy is called Mary Alesia Stokes, AKA Toked Stoked Music from youtube! http://www.youtube.com/user/TokedStokedMusic
Her voice is absoloutely amazing and stunning and will make your ears so happy! Here is a song that will enter your head and never leave. And if your anything like me it will help you hit nirvana!
When she plays I just imagine fields and fields of flowers blooming its incredible! She describes herself as a tv addict and community college burnout on her twitter http://twitter.com/#!/TokedStoked , has crazy ukele skills and has been playing guitar since she was 13. Her inspirations include the amazing Laura Marling and Anya Marina, amongst other amazing artists such as Iron & Wine. She's also well funny and has lot's of animals...
What I love is that her youtube channel is basically a collection of her own original songs, and they are so magical! Her musical ability is obviously flawless and her natural voice is so pretty, but the lyrics of her songs are what gets me the most. The words are like artwork travelling to my ears in the form of sound particles.

Beautiful Bands
Okay, so I'll admit I am extremely hard to please when it comes to bands! There's so many out there so I just stay unimpressed if there isn't something that catches me or something quirky and unique! I'm sorry I don't know why I am just fussy with them! So you can imagine how happy I am to have fallen in love with two different sets of magical guys...
The King Blues
Someone introduced me to these guys a few weeks ago and what a stab in the dark I am in aweee! Ever since I was told about these angels I have been completely lovestruck, the same way anyone would be if Chase + Status and The Streets had a love child in the form of sound particles! The ability to both skank and sway when listening to this lot is so inspiring, and the captivatingly unique qualities makes them sooooo worth a listen. Wooooooohooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

Pegasus Bridge
Having an internet-wander through the artists represented my Manchester (woo) record label lab records, I stumbled across this bunch! Best stumble of my life!! They have been together since school, and apparently were banned from their music room, so used to practice in the caretaker's hut! They tantalize and excite me!Think sort of Kooks meets your local open mic night gems!

Ear Candy For Eyes!
Once upon a time the world saw two wonderful art forms collide...
Music & Film!
Vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form , harmony, and expression of emotion alongisde a story or event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a cinema or on television: to capture on film as part of a series of moving images; make a film of a story, event, or book (As you can see I have raided The Oxford Dictionary)
Normally my brain doesn't show much interest in music videos, but these two have caught me like a fish-hook recently, and I feel it is share-time...
This one is by the amazing Christina Perri, and it absoloutely exploded when it was featured as a song on So You Think You Can Dance!! The concept of the lyrics are so unique I love it. Whatsmore the dancers in the video somehow manage to be fiesty and graceful when executing the same movements!? Give it a watchie :)
And this one is by Ed Sheeran! All I can say is get a tissue because you may experience waterfalls in your eyes...
Sorry for the short entry, but I am currently suffering from a commonn disease known as A-Levels, :(

Mr. Woon & Friends
I am always a keeno when it comes to enlightening the horizons of my musical awareness, so when a friend asked me to accompany her to a Jamie Woon gig at the gorgeous Deaf Institute, Manchester, I was more than open to the adventure!
And if you fancy grooving to him face to face, hit this link up to see when you can!! http://www.jamiewoon.com/#list-_listing_shows
But wait!! There's more!!!!!!!!!! Whilst fluttering around for some Woon magic, I also came across two EXCELLENT musicians.......
The first is Matt Corby,
who is currently working with the label 'Communion', which was co-founded by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons and Kev Jones of Cherbourg! He supported Jamie at Start the Bus, Bristol on 20th Feb 2011, and I'm not even joking or embarrassed to say that as soon as I heard this guy play, I got down on one knee and proposed to my computer screen, via the following video...
But waaaaaaaaaaaaaait! There is yet more!!!
Yes I have another for you! Jono McCleery,
who supported Woon at Jericho Tavern in Oxford on the 19th Feb 2011, and this one released his first album, 'The Darkest Light' independantly! It was funded by his fans and he produced it himself!! My hands are clapping for you Jono because that's impressive! This one is called 'Tommorow', which I have listened to about 20 times in a row and is now best friends to both my eardrums. Prepare yourself for a filthy bassline...
BUT WAIT!!!!! Yes! I have more for you!! Some presents! Click the links and consider me your audio Santa :)

| Me and my best mate with the main man himself, Jamie Woon!!! |
I decided to keep virgin ears with his tracks, so went along not really knowing what to expect, and boy oh boy was I impressed! To be honest, impressed is an understatement. If his voice were an animal it would be a butterfly, as he sailed so comfortably and beautifully through all his vocals. Accompanied by the sounds of keys, guitars, drums and his cool machine, he somehow achieves the perfect balance between relaxing, energizing, and enchanting the crowd and the atmosphere. Whatsmore, he has the cutest smile ever.

Check out this vid of him and the cool machine at work, and then give him a cheeky accapella listen to get a feel for what I'm rambling on about, coz let's be honest, with or without his great wire tail, his sound is rather sparkly special!

Thank You Burberry
Last week was the first time I had James Blake enchant my ears with his massively popular song, Limit To Your Love (single available on itunes for a well worth it £1.49, or catch the video on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOT2-OTebx0 ). It was as if all members of The XX and a male version of Lykke Li had made a beautiful love child with a magical voice, providing the world with an interesting and provoking sound. Coincidentally, whilst flicking through my Sunday Style Magazine at the weekend, I noticed they had commented that 'There's no limit to our love for your new album'. After putting two and two together, I thought, yes, fashion magazine, your slightly hot on your tunes.
Investigating further, I dug out the issue from the week before, and re-read it to find another musical recommendation, Misty Miller, (follow this link to pursue her audiable art http://www.myspace.com/mistymillermusic ) 'The velvet-voiced, ukulele-playing 16-year-old, bigged up by Burberry. Two melty albums on the way'. Feeling comfortable in the arms of The Sunday Times Style magazines' taste in music, I youtubed this little nymph and was pleasantly surprised at uncovering a whole series of Burberry, promoting various acoustic musicians and bands! I have probably just been living under a rock, but at my discovery, I couldn't help but jump around and feel happy! Here are a few video links, handpicked by me as some of my favourite Burberry Acousitcs...

Why I love Crystal Castles...
If I was to explain the sound of Crystal Castles, I would probably start by describing a colony of gameboy addicted mermaids living in some sort of warped sea travelling around space. However on their myspace, they have chosen to express their genre as, 'Thrash'. Both sufficient descriptions?
I have been obsessed with this duo since they performed 'Alice Practice' on Skins with the original cast! They're 18 track album, 'Crystal Castles', (available on itunes for only £4.49 including a video of 'Courtship Dating'), features incredibly unique and explosive production skills from Ethan Kath, alongside the versatile and mentally calming vocal work of Alice Glass.
Together the pair have conquered the world of electronic audiable art, aswell as providing sufficient sounds for my revision sessions, pre-lash bus journeys and generally befriending the musical antennae I call my ears! Have a listen to a collection of their classic recordings! http://www.myspace.com/crystalcastles

Not a fan? I wondered how I would tackle the robotic fearing few! Not to worry, because I am not one to give up easy. The first time this appeared on Willow, (meet my Ipod), the three words that sprung into my brain initially were, 'Female-Bon-Iver'. Contraversial... maybe. But give it a listen and see what you think! You might be pleasantly suprised! :) (This is a video I love and is directed by youtube fan 'Jò'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaRfBNrkIyA
I have had the honour of seeing the pair perform live, twice! Once at 'Leeds Music Festival', and last Saturday at the NME Shockwaves Manchester gig. Both times were astounding! The NME Stage was the perfect location at 'Leeds', and I can honestly say there is nothing better than watching Alice Glass sail about the crowd on a warm summers' eve. En plus, in Manchester, following The Vaccines, Everything Everthing, and Magnetic Man, they also managed to bewitch and enchant yet another crowd. Both performances were so raw yet skillfull, and filled me completely with energy, and filled everybody there with energy! So much so it was spilling everywhere and the atmosphere created was indescribable. Follow this link to get your share of this magic! http://crystalcastles.com/tour/

Hello 2011, Goodbye 2010!
I like where we are when we drive in your car! An equally fitting title for my first blog, dating on the last day of the first month, of a brand new year. So as a completely unestablished blogger, I thought I'd explode into the literary cyberspace by sharing artists I feel have accomplished greatly in 2010, and/or I have hope for in 2011.
PS - I have tried to include the odd picture for those who appreciate visual aids !
Favourite Discovery of 2010
GABRIELLE APLIN
Woohoo! Wafting through covers of Ellie Gouldings' 'Wish I stayed last year', I heard a beautiful new voice. Returning to my cover browsing, I came across another, You Me At Six 'The Liar and The Lighter', the same incredible and unique voice! So I explored my interest further, and have since been too excited about this girls' music and her career! She is excellently committed to her youtube cover-blogging, maintaining a massively high standard always as well as successfully collaborating with various other musicians. She uses her voice and her guitar, and sometimes keys, so anyone into the skills of a musician and a vocalist won't fail to fall in love. Concluding all of this from her youtube channel therefore, when I went to see her live for the first time at a peacefully intimate gig in a little cafe/bar thing in Manchester last September, I was nervous to see if she would be as amazing live. And she was, SHE WAS AIUEFBEGNEAMAZING! It was a glorious night my ears were so happy, and I came home with a signed EP (I recommend a copy to anyone into acoustic folksy stuff). A little while after a big picture of her and her guitar appeared on the BBC Introducing online page, which caused a massive bubble of confidence for her and her music to explode in my belly for her success to come in the year 2011. Follow this link & SUBSCRIBE!!! http://www.youtube.com/user/Gaberrz
Favourite Album of 2010
KINA GRANNIS
If you live over the pond in the magnificent USA, you will never understand how severely jealous I am for the fact that you are capable of seeing this girl live without having to cross any oceans. Her album 'Stairwells', named in respect of the stairwells she used to sing and compose in, became my ipod's best friend last summer. I literally couldn't place a favourite song, they're all incredible and the album is worth buying 100 times over. I first came across her singing a cover of one of my favourite songs of all time 'Hallelujah', and was instantly in love. You'll love her if you love to relax, and I think praising her with the title, future Colbie Callait, expresses her style fairly accurately. Her youtube is booming, and you can find versions of the songs from the album here, alongside amazing covers, some even featuring Boyce Avenue http://www.youtube.com/user/kinagrannis?feature=chclk , and you can purchase 'Stairwells' here, (I believe a fresh version is to be released in early 2011, I don't know what will be different but boy am I excited!) http://store.kinagrannis.com/products/stairwells-1
Favourite Cover of 2010
Mo Hat Mo Gheansaí (Tadhg & Oisín), Harry & Alfie and Hannah Vivian-Byrne
All you need to do is listen to it, and if you dislike it then you do not deserve ears.

Favouirte Live Performance of 2010
MUMFORD AND SONS
I was slowly, calmly, yet excitedly introduced to the four magical people who grace the names Marcus, Ted, Winston and Ben. I first heard 'The Cave', followed by 'Little Lion Man'. I can't remember how I came across them, but the likelihood is that it had something to do with my insanely obsessed best friend, and I spent summer jumping up and down to the acceptable use of the word 'fuck', as it is delivered so eloquently. I had the honour, to attend their first headlining festival 'Summer Sundae', and then saw them again at 'Leeds'. Both times were outstanding, you literally cannot describe the atmosphere they create. They befriend the crowd so gracefully, jump up and down like menacing little angels, and somehow manage to create a sound sent from God. All I can say is see them live, because there are no words to describe the Mumford & Sons live experience. Their original folk exquisiteness (if that's a word), is projected insanely when straight from mouth/instrument to ear. Click here to see when you can see them live, http://www.mumfordandsons.com/ .I've tried, but this written word just doesn't do such an experience justice.

Hello Goodbye STAR 2010 & 2011
I Blame Coco
This name was thrown about my life before 'Leeds' last year, and when I got there I overheard my tent neighbours talking about her. I drew a star next to the name on my little program, and accidently ended up missing her set. BIG MISTAKE. I came home, and she was on the cover of my 'ASOS' magazine, so I just though, enough's enough I am listening to something you have created Coco!. Since that moment I have become an Eliot Sumner addict. Her voice is completely unique, her old reggaeish sound and her new more synth sounds both make me so happy. There is just something magical about what she has produced she is like a musical fairy. Fortunately after my obsession began, a Manchester gig of hers was conveniently approaching, so I dragged a mixture of musically appreciative and musically questionable friends along with me - everyone loved it! (What made it all the more special was I managed to hand her a letter I wrote, from crowd to stage! Best moment of my life!) Her current album, The Constant, is unique in so many ways, the lyrics of the songs are extremely provoking and interest me greatly, and the whole thing is excellently produced and well crafted. I hope her career in the art of noise booms this year because she totally has everything going for her. I want to be her. Give this cover with Natty a listen, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSweH0gYZXI , it's one of my favourites, then fly over to her official site and get lost forever in her music.

Jessie J
I was in an art lesson a few weeks ago and the words 'We can do it like the mandem' came zooming through my eardrums, and I was like WHOA! Pursuing this girl I have learnt she got the 'Brits Critic's Choice Award 2011', which just made me go "Brit Awards = On it!" I then saw the video and listened to 'Do It Like A Dude' repeatedly and I just can't get enough. I then found acoustic versions, showing off her Lady Gaga-esque I-can-sing-to-electronic-sounds-but-BOOM-give-me-an-instrument-and-I-will-make-you-cry-I'm-that-good! Her voice is perfected, and the girl has edge! There's limits to what I can say, as she has just blown into my life recently, so I will leave you with this piece of genius excellence, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K8kccffpPQI have come to realise if I was to award every artist I loved I would be here till I was dead, so I have created titles, however here is a shortlist of those I am unable to leave unmentioned;
Florence & The Machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuqgT8_Kc7I , Kyla La Grange http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kzm4LxWfoU , Britney Spears http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJSm_QMO6zA , NDubz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JirUFp90_os , Crystal Castles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2FOnrFlEJY , Shontelle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWdrO4BoCu8 , Seasick Steve http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC3rzgprN4w , Matt Cardle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-5M93tovEs , Brigitte Bardot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ2mGqL1HEk , Kurt Schneider & Sam Tsui http://www.youtube.com/user/KurtHugoSchneider#p/u/42/kvAboV8Qfb8 , The Middle East http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXaczP4-VTE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7SSC3ex-bA , Justin Bieber http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRaWDue13nU , Kurt Nilsen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2NEU6Xf7lM (I have forgotten millions of people who should be credited, these ones were obviously running around my head, if you get a chance, they're all worth a jam!)
So concluding last years findings, there is quite a mix of sounds to explore! I hope I have introduced to you, or share with you something to like, or something to feel! Remember though, there's no point me rambling on about noise, the best way is obviously to listen firsthand, and grow your own opinions! Have fun! First blog done wahoooooooo mwaaah xoxoxoox
